Eleven Healing Herbs & How To Use Them For Spell Work
Peace and blessings mystic lovers!
Today I embarked on my usual 7:00 am wellness walk with my dog, and for the first time ever I noticed a peculiar looking weed growing on nearly every street in my neighborhood. I walk the same route daily, examining the fruit trees and wildlife, but I’ve never stopped to look at this particular weed sprouted along the edges of the sidewalk. The abundance of it’s growth made me wonder if this stringy green weed could have some natural healing properties to it.
Like the true earth sign that I am, I decided to snap a picture, drop into Google image search, and see what came up. Turns out that this weed is actually Cuman Ragweed, a common plant with deep history in Mexican medical culture. It’s used as an astringent, skin disinfectant, emetic, antidote, and fever reducer. Cuman Ragweed teas as or tinctures have been used by Mayan and indigenous Mexican healers for the treatment of fevers, pneumonia, nausea, intestinal cramps, diarrhea and menstrual disorders.
This was such a pleasant surprised! Who knew a seemingly unsuspecting plant could have so many natural healing benefits. I had to harvest some to for my herbal apothecary. My little unexpected foraging experience on this morning drew my mind down a rabbit hole vortex of common herbs and the history woman have with natural remedies and spiritual rituals.
In my humblest divine feminine opinion, the relationship we women have with herbs and plants is as sacred as our relationship with the moon. As the nurturers and healers of society, women have always stood at the forefront of these herbal rituals, providing spiritual guidance and natural healing for the men, children, and other women in our communities. Herbs have long played an important role in natural healing and spiritual rituals throughout so many different religions and ethnic groups. Many ancient and indigenous cultures used herbs in their proximity to facilitate spiritual ceremonies, energy cleansing, and natural remedies.
As modern society moves more towards a more spiritual approach to healing the mind, body, and soul, women have begun to reclaim ownership of their ancestral connection to plants and herbs. I constantly come across women on social media growing their own herb and vegetable gardens (shout out to my algorithm), getting into herbalism, foraging, and leaning into natural and holistic methods of healing. It’s really beautiful to witness! If you’re a woman who is thinking about expanding your knowledge of herbalism and natural healing remedies, I have a few book recommendations that can help you get started.
