A Beginner's Guide to Chakra Healing

Peace and blessings mystic lovers!

Last week, I gave you all journal prompts and affirmations for each of the seven major chakras. After uploading the article it dawned on me, “What if someone reading this article doesn’t know anything about chakra healing?” Obviously, I should have informed you all about what chakra healing actually is in order for you to apply the journal prompts and affirmations more effectively. My bad!

When I write and create topics to share here on Mystic Words, my goal is to educate and inform women on their spiritual wellness journey. If there is one thing you absolutely need when embarking on your spiritual wellness journey, it’s chakra healing. The ancient wisdom of chakra healing offers us a path to restore spiritual equilibrium and nurture our inner selves. The principals and guiding spirituality of chakras can be incorporated into many aspects of your spiritual journey. “My First Encounter With Spiritual Omens” is an article I wrote detailing how my own relationship and mystic understanding of chakras helped me heal my inner child.

Applying chakra healing to your spiritual wellness journey isn’t difficult to do. This beginner's guide will walk you through the essentials of chakra healing and how you can start your spiritual wellness journey toward a balanced mind, body, and soul.

What Are Chakras?

Let’s get into the history of chakra healing first, shall we? Chakras are energy centers or “portals” in the body located along the spine, extending from the base to the crown of the head. The concept of chakras originated in Hinduism and Buddhist spirituality. Derived from Vedic Sanskrit, the word "chakra" means "wheel of light" representing the idea that these energy centres are spinning vortices that influence our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. There are 114 chakras in total, but seven primary chakras, each associated with different aspects of our lives:

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara): Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra is linked to our sense of stability, security, and grounding. It represents our connection to the earth and our basic needs for survival. The root chakra is associated with the color red and becomes blocked by fear, poor diet and health, overthinking, physical attacks, near death experiences, financial crises, and natural disasters. When the root chakra is clear and stimulated, one feels mentally grounded, balanced, and calm.

  2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): The sacral chakra governs our creativity, sexuality, and emotional connection. It is situated just below the navel and influences how we relate to others and experience pleasure. The color associated with the sacral chakra is orange. Surpressing emotions, experiencing guilt and sexual abuse create blockages in the sacral chakra. An unblocked or stimulated sacral chakra brings heightened sexual energy, creative flow, and increased serotonin levels.

  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Located in the upper abdomen, this chakra is associated with the color yellow, personal power, confidence, and self-esteem.The sacral chakra governs our ability to take action and assert ourselves. Things like shame, neglect, and verbal abuse can create blockages in the sacral chakra. Opening and activating the sacral chakra causes us to become social, outgoing, and adventurous spirits.

  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata): Positioned in the center of the chest, the heart chakra is the portal of love, compassion, and forgiveness. It is associated with the color green and connects us to others and ourselves on a deep emotional level. Grief, heartbreak, disloyalty, jealousy, loneliness, and disappointment are just a few emotions that when left unprocessed can cause the heart chakra to become blocked. Unlocking and activating the heart chakra will bring empathy, inner peace, and an abundance feeling of love for one’s self and others.

  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Found at the throat, this chakra is linked to communication, self-expression, and truth. The throat chakra is associated with the color blue and influences how we convey our thoughts and feelings. Lying, dishonest behavior, self-doubt, arguments, and gossiping are just a few things that can block your throat chakra. When the throat chakra is clear and stimulated, one will experience clear communication and desire freedom of expression.

  6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Located between the eyebrows, the third eye chakra is associated with intuition, insight, inner wisdom, and the color indigo. The third eye chakra helps us perceive beyond the physical realm and tap into our higher consciousness and divinity. Stress, fluoride, processed foods, heavy metals, stress, and a disconnect from nature all cause your third eye to become blocked. When the third eye is cleared of blockages and stimulated, one will experience clairvoyance, vivid dreams, astral projection, and intuitive powers.

  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Situated at the top of the head, the crown chakra represents our connection to the divine and our sense of spiritual fulfilment. It is the gateway to higher states of consciousness and associated with the colors violet and white. Feeling a lack of purpose and a disconnect from reality. Additionally, the crown chakra will remain blocked until the lower chakra previously mentioned are activated. An activated and clear crown chakra will bring your profound spiritual connection and fulfilment.

How Does Chakra Healing Work?

Now that you know what each of the seven chakras mean, we can dive into their work to aid your spiritual wellness journey.

The reason chakras healing is an essential component to spiritual wellness journey is because it can be integrated into almost any practice to create balance and spiritual harmony. By aligning these energy centers, you can transform your overall well-being. When a chakra is blocked or out of balance, it can manifest as physical, emotional, or mental issues. Chakra healing practices will guide you towards clearing these blockages and restore harmony within the mind, body, and soul.

Simple Practices to Begin Your Chakra Healing Journey

  1. Meditation: Meditation is a powerful tool for commencing chakra healing. Sit quietly, close your eyes, and focus on where each chakra is located on the body, visualizing its color and energy. Imagine the chakra spinning with fluidity and radiating balanced energy. This simple chakra meditation practice can help clear blockages and heighten your overall energy flow. If you have crystal associated with the chakra you're working with, adding them to your meditation won’t hurt.

  2. Affirmations: Using chakra affirmations can help reprogram your subconscious mind. For example, use affirmations like “I am grounded and secure” for the root chakra or “I speak what I desire into my reality” for the throat chakra.

  3. Crystals: Crystals are believed to resonate with specific chakra vibrations and can be used to support your healing. For instance, amethyst is often associated with the third eye chakra, while rose quartz aligns with the heart chakra. Place the crystals on or near the corresponding energy point of your body during meditation or wear them as jewelry while you work on unblocking or activating a specific chakra. Crystals can also be combined with reiki to unblock or balance chakra energy points.

  4. Yoga: Yoga poses can help open and balance the chakras. The philosophy of yoga is the belief that life force energy (otherwise known as "prana") travels through the body in a series of channels, called "nadis." These nadis intersect at points of intensified energy points, called "chakras." Poses such as Tree Pose for the root chakra or Cobra Pose for the heart chakra are designed to stimulate energy flow and promote balance.

Final Thoughts

Chakra healing is a deeply personal journey, and there really is no one-size-fits-all approach for incorporating it into your spiritual wellness journey. As you explore these chakra healing practices, listen to your body and intuition, and remember that healing isn’t a race but rather a journey. By incorporating chakra healing into your spiritual routines, you can call in a greater sense of balance, connection, and well-being into your life.

If you're curious about chakra healing, take it one step at a time, and enjoy the process of discovering a new way to nurture your mind, body, and soul. Leave a comment to let me know which chakra healing method you plan to try.
